The Mill, 1964, by Andrew Wyeth
Life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences but rather, it is a tapestry of events that culminate into an exquisite, sublime plan ~ Serendipity
It had been snowing constantly for days which had made her job at the mill estate such a struggle. The other staff had gone home the previous day & she was to work the weekend shift alone. He was the owner of the estate and had been the object of her lustful affection for months now but of course this was not something he was aware of.
The announcement was made over a radio broadcast. Weather officials declared, "A snow day!" In these parts a snow day meant no work, no traveling and 'NO' visitors. He was scheduled to fly out on a business trip today but
with the roads snowed in and the runways closed down, he was now stuck
at the estate for the weekend too.
They were to be alone; not another soul within coowee of the place. Just the two of them, an open log fire, no power & a cellar of good old red!
It was a most wonderful serendipitous occasion and one that would change their lives forever!

DeleteWe spell it 'Cooee', but if I heard Coo-wee, I would surely call back... maybe that is how she let him know she was there, alone, fire going and a cork pulled... bliss!!
ReplyDeleteStafford, you are right! That is how you spell coowee. I just checked!! Oh well, a little post editing is now required. Thanks you for your comment :-)
DeleteSerendipitous indeed!
ReplyDeleteCheers Tess :-)
DeleteA great take. I think of water wheels and grist mills and frozen water...the mill stops work. No mill no corn meal or flour for your bread.
