I do hope this post finds everybody happy & well. I've not posted in a while because I simply have been so, so busy. Unfortunately my brother has been in hospital for the second time with another bad dose of Bacterial Pneumonia. He was taken to hospital by ambulance 2 weeks ago & finally came home on Thursday which is such a relief. It will take another 6-8 weeks of recovery at home before he is feeling his normal self again. He really has had such a bad time of it this year. To thank God for small mercies, he fortunately didn't have any seizures whilst he was ill, which is usually what happens when he's sick & his systems off kilt.
On the upside of life I recently began a new job with another Disability Service, which has proven to be a very good decision. The process leading up to making the decision to leave my previous position was indeed a very difficult one, taking several months of soul searching & tooing and froing. The one & only reason that I found it difficult was ceasing support of the clients I had been working with for the last 5 or so years. Several of them I will remain in contact with & visit from time to time because I know saying goodbye forever would be detrimental to their emotional wellbeing and I can't just walk away.
Anyway my new employer is fantastic & I have been so very impressed with the Induction phase of my new position that I can't wait to get started officially. I feel that the management & Director of this service are all working in this field for the right reasons & that is so very comforting to know. The Director is an amazing man who is so committed to the rights of all the clients we support. I also learned that he still works one shift a week with a client to keep alive in his mind what we're all about, which I think is fantastic.
As well as starting a new job I have also committed myself to some study, which is both exciting & scary. I hope the old gray matter still works like it used to. I am studying Certificate IV in Disabilities & if this goes well for me, I will do my Diploma which is only another year of study.
So this is what I've been up to & why I've not been here in a while. I just wanted to let you all know that I am OK & am still here, I just may not be here as often as I used to.
Love Katherine

ReplyDeleteGreat to read this, Katherine ! [I've been having internet issues (again) and visiting blogs had become very painful (as in time-consuming)]. Had to stop by and see how you were - and it sounds like you're doing very well. Congrats on the new job, and I'm sure you'll attain your diploma !
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your brother - what a tough year for him.
Not to worry about blogging - come by when you can; you're pursuing your passion and that's where your focus needs to be.
Thank you all so much for your very kind comments & words of support. My brother is doing much better and is getter better with each passing day. I am enjoying my new job & studying again. It appears that the old gray matter does still work, thank goodness!! I really do appreciate all your comments. Cheers Kath x
