Poet's Sleep, 1989, by Chang Houg Ahn
"Millions of spiritual creatures walk the earth unseen, both when we sleep
and when we are awake" (John Milton)
The souls of hundreds
Lurk in the night
A chill's in the air
Marking mid winters bite
Is it.....
Reality or Illusion
Argh this matrix of sleep
My senses are marred
I'm confused, incomplete
Not here nor there
It's not lucidly clear
I'm caught in between
This limbic system of fear!

some might say its all in your head....smiles...yikes...i hope it is...smiles.
ReplyDeleteYes they might! Sometimes i get a bit frightened by what's in my head when i dream.
Delete"The limbic system of fear" is something to think about.
ReplyDeleteI've always been intrigued by dreams and whether or not they mean anything. Sometimes I dream and can't remember a thing, then other times I dream and can remember everything & the emotions related to the dream stick around for a bit in the waking hours. I used to have dreams like that often but not so often these days, which is good!
DeleteAstutely inventive response to the prompt...
ReplyDeleteThankyou Berowne!
DeleteMore nightmare than dream, perhaps? I'm sure I have many nights exactly like this :)
ReplyDeleteYes...definitely more nightmare! Or night terror!
Delete...'matrix of sleep' really ~ everything possible there...~ cool!
ReplyDeleteI know!! I tried to get a little inventive ... hee! hee! hee!
DeleteWhen we sleep we mostly do not wake from the dream in which we live :) Yet our subconscious suspects something about the matrix.
ReplyDeleteYep, the good old subconscious never sleeps!
Delete"To sleep perhance to dream: aye, there's the rub." And even worse when the waking and dreaming bleed into one another. This is a thought proviking write Katherine.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary, it's sounds as though you're speaking from personal experience. Thank you for your comment!
DeleteIts in the in between where it can get a little weird, sometimes draining ! , the ocean is far safer, Our Mothers embrace ! Thanks Katherine
ReplyDeleteIt sure can weird. My dreams are so, so weird and your right sometimes when I dream like this I wake up feeling like I haven't even slept. Thanks!
DeleteThis is so what is happening. Great magpie.
ReplyDeleteThank You Karen :-)
DeleteYou captured the fear and confusion quite nicely...

DeleteReally enjoyed this one! Life's often a 50/50 game.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Helena!
DeleteNothing nice about being in limbo. Well captured Katherine - the fear of not knowing is sometimes too much.....
