Lost in the Mirror
Dressed in cream vintage linen
Laced with sequins & pearls
This antique shop of treasure
Truly excited this girl
She liked how it smelled
How it felt on her skin
She twirled & she swirled
Her face adorned a big grin
She danced round the shop
With her arms in the air
She was floating & dancing
She hadn't a care
She paused for a moment
She opened her eyes
She looked in the mirror
But who was this guise??
The semblance moved with her
Side to side ... up and down
But as she looked upon it
No resemblance was found
The girls hair was red
Her hair was brown
She wore a ponytail
This girl wore a crown
She walked near to the mirror
Feeling curiously strange
She reached out her hand
The red head did the same
Her arm merged with the mirror
She felt a magnetic pull
Calm fell upon her
She entered the mirror in full.
The antique dealer came looking
But all that she saw
Was the full length maple mirror
And the opened dressing room door
The antique dealer was baffled
Where did the girl go?
Did she imagine her in the first place
We will never know!!!

Oh, I like this... and did she become part of the mirror, or was she simply a reflection of the dealer's thoughts? Nice
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. Thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteK, lovely piece of fantasy. And was that young girl you by any chance. On a more legal note. Does that count as shoplifting? Thanks for your comments on mine. Uncle clem and Uncle Nat - perhaps they met? Nat lived in the old Clem Jones Hostel at Bulimba which was a pretty basic boarding house type accommodation in those days just a ferry ride from the woolstores. Now it's a pretty basic aged care faci;lity. My father refused to go there.
ReplyDeletePS Nat turned up thirty years later at Narrabri working as a caretaker on site. We found him when he entered hospital in his late 70s and was asked for a next of kin - triggering a response from the database of those reported missing.
lovely Katherine.....if she did perhaps the mieeoe is a better place for her...a fantastical magpie...
ReplyDeleteHaha - loved it. Left me with a nice feeling and that can't be bad.

Imagination can take us anywhere! And I would like to swirl around in that dress..
ReplyDeleteAnother brilliant performance Katherine. I was tempted to say that in my opinion, this is your best piece yet. But if I did, I'm sure I'd be saying it again down the road.
ReplyDeletelove this Through the Looking Glass story...
ReplyDeletewhen I was a child mirrors fascinated me..I used to carry a large mirror around the house looking down into it and pretending I was walking on the ceiling...
spooky! well written, and it left me with a smile.. albeit curious as to where the gal went! :)
