Orange trees & fennel shrubs
Big dams & rolling fields
Rusted blades turn round and round
Water's pumped from the power it yields
It may be old and rustic
It's a landmark of the land
Great grandfather built it five score years ago
And it still stands tall and grand

Lovely poem Katherine.
ReplyDeleteThe windmills that I saw when in Holland years ago were massive. Some were working and some weren't. And they did stand tall and grand! Great Magpie!

ReplyDeleteNice! you've reminded me of my grandparents' farms. I must look more closely to see these icons of life. Not many of them left.

A most pleasant rhyming poem. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGreat words. I really like the sense of honoring someone's memory and the permanence of the windmill (and the memory).
