What a beautiful day! The fresh crisp morning was followed by a day of gorgeous blue skies, white fluffy marshmallow clouds, beautiful sea breezes, the hypnotic movement of the sea & the soothing sound of the waves rolling onto sandy shores. Magical!
The beaches were crowded with young & old, there were children playing with their dogs, surfers gliding in on big rolling waves. I saw a well dressed gentleman, I'm guessing around 55 & he was pushing an elderly lady in a wheelchair out onto the rocky wall. She was well groomed, but very, very frail. Her skin was marked with time, there were bruises on her forearms that were genlty crossed upon her lap. Her head was slumped to one side so I was unable to see her face. I began to wonder about this elderly lady. I wondered if this spot was one that she frequented as a younger, more lively woman. I began to think about the passage of time & the changes that lay ahead. I also wondered about the man that was pushing her in the wheelchair, watching him care for this woman with such tenderness. What a beautiful man!
We took a leisurely walk out to the end of the rocky sea wall , the ocean was wild & the swell of the waves were enormous. Standing still, staring out into the sea beyond, the large waves were crashing upon the rock wall, showering us with a fine, refreshing mist of sea spray. It was a soothing & therapeaudic sensory experience.
It always amazes me how healing a day at the ocean can be. The best things in life are free!

nice. i need a day at the ocean like that...
ReplyDeleteThe beach is my wife's favorite place to be. It always rejuvenates her.
ReplyDeleteBrian ~ This was written a while ago & I re-posted it because I too need a centering day by the sea. We've had so much wet weather of late that we haven't been for about a month & I miss it!!!
